Spend $50 on a DVD player?

Yes - I said it. Spend $50 on a new DVD player. No, it is not 1996, and no you shouldn't go back to the cell phone that is built into a carrying case.

For $50 or so you can revive your DVD collection and buy an Upconverting DVD player for your HDTV. It plays normal DVDs at near HD quality - in fact, it's so close to HD that it fools the most discerning eyes. Even this guy agrees as he writes an article on a cheap $250 HD-DVD player.

Here are some tips:

1) Make sure it has an HDMI connection (should be standard)
2) Make sure it outputs 720P and 1080i resolutions (1080P is also out there, costs a bit more...)
3) Don't spend over $50, there are plenty of deals out there (go with a Panasonic, Samsung, LG, or Sony model)
